Love Grows Deep reunites vibraphonist Dick Sisto and pianist Fred Hersch in a luminous duo setting that reflects their long-standing musical friendship. The recording draws from a memorable concert at the Kentucky Center for the Arts in May 2001, capturing two musicians whose shared sensibility transforms each performance into an intimate dialogue.
A deeply melodic improviser shaped by Chicago’s vibrant jazz tradition, Sisto finds a natural partner in Hersch, one of modern jazz’s most respected pianists, celebrated for his lyricism and harmonic depth. The album blends selections from the original Duo Live performances with additional previously unreleased material from the same concert. Original compositions by both artists appear alongside classic works by Benny Carter, Wayne Shorter, Thelonious Monk and Cole Porter, highlighting the duo’s warmth, clarity and effortless interplay. A quarter-century after it was recorded, Love Grows Deep stands as a testament to two master musicians sharing a deeply expressive musical conversation.

Dick Sisto (vibraphone) and Andy LaVerne (piano) were fellow faculty members of the famed Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshop and have been close colleagues since 1996.
During the last seasons of the Workshop in 2018 and 2019 Dick and Andy performed concerts as duo dedicating the program for Bill Evans and Scott LaFaro. This album is derived from those four concerts recorded live.
Andy LaVerne who studied with Evans contributes also a very informative, insightful and fascinating liner notes here.
